In Calling by Jack Brokenshire, you get one possible answer.  You can phone the dead.Calling Cover  Sitting alone in a bar, the hero decides to emulate another patron who is busy chatting with his dad.  He punches in a series of random numbers, all with the pretense of looking like he is connected to someone rather than being at a bar as nothing more than a lonely drunk.

He never expects someone to really answer.  Nor does he expect a positive response to his question, “Can I speak to my dad?”

Only he does.

Which is impossible because his dad has been dead for a very long time.

So, what do you say when you have a hotline to the afterlife?  What questions do you ask?  Are  you willing to hear the truthful answers? And what if the answers you get aren’t the ones you want to hear?  Finally, how would owning such a phone change your life?

Emotionally searing, Calling, touches deep inside us to show us one possible answer out of many about what has happened to the ones we love, and how it might affect those of us left behind.
